Ella, 28, works as a paediatric nurse in central London. She booked her theory test for three weeks out and hadn't opened a Highway Code in her life. Here's how she did it.
Week 1 — audio only
On her commute and during her lunch break, Ella listened to one chapter a day. No notes. No quizzes. Just listening.
“I didn't even try to remember it. I just let it play. By the end of the week I was finishing sentences out loud.”
— Ella, London
Week 2 — diagnostic + targeted practice
She took a placement quiz that flagged motorway rules and vehicle handling as her weak spots. She spent the week doing 20 questions a day, focused on those two topics.
Week 3 — mocks
Three full mocks under exam conditions. After each one, she spent 30 minutes reviewing the wrong answers. Her scores went 38 → 44 → 47.
Test day
Ella passed with 48/50 and 62/75 on hazard perception. Total time invested: roughly 18 hours over three weeks.
